Mall Kiosk Insurance

Coverage built for food and beverage kiosks operating inside malls and shopping centers β€” plus the Certificate of Insurance property management will ask for.

An upscale shopping mall interior with escalators and retail storefronts

A kiosk in a shopping mall is a different animal from a street cart. You're inside a managed property, under a formal license or lease agreement, surrounded by other tenants and foot traffic all day, every day. Mall management almost always sets specific insurance requirements before you can open β€” and we build our quote form to match.

What makes mall kiosk insurance different

  • Higher liability limits. Many mall license agreements specify minimum General Liability limits β€” commonly $1,000,000 per occurrence β€” that outdoor vendors aren't always held to.
  • Named additional insured. The certificate of insurance must list the mall's exact legal ownership entity and/or management company, not just β€œthe mall.”
  • Fixed, indoor location. Unlike a mobile cart, a kiosk sits in one indoor spot β€” which can work in your favor on pricing, since there's no travel or weather exposure.
  • Build-out and equipment. Kiosk leases typically make the vendor responsible for their own structure, counters, and equipment β€” protected under an Inland Marine policy, not the mall's building insurance.

Indoor and outdoor β€” both eligible

Whether you're operating a kiosk inside a climate-controlled mall corridor or an open-air cart on the sidewalk outside, both setups are eligible for coverage through the same quote process. We ask a simple question about your indoor/outdoor setting so the quote reflects where you actually operate.

The certificate of insurance mall management wants

Almost every mall kiosk agreement requires a certificate of insurance (COI) naming the property owner and/or management company as an additional insured before you can take possession of the space. Once your policy is bound, a COI can typically be generated and delivered quickly β€” see our certificate of insurance guide for exactly how that process works.

Also cook and serve from a street cart?

Many kiosk operators also run a mobile cart at markets or events on the side. Our general liability and inland marine coverage apply to both setups β€” just tell us about each location on the quote form.

Frequently asked questions

Is a mall kiosk insured differently than an outdoor food cart?

The underlying coverage lines are the same β€” General Liability and Inland Marine β€” but a mall kiosk usually needs a higher liability limit set by the property manager's lease terms, and the Certificate of Insurance has to name the mall or management company by its exact legal name and address.

Does the mall require a certificate of insurance?

Almost always. Property management typically requires proof of General Liability coverage naming the mall ownership entity and/or management company as an additional insured, often before you're allowed to open for business β€” see our certificate of insurance guide for how that's generated.

What limits do malls typically require?

It varies by property, but many shopping centers require at least $1,000,000 per occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate in General Liability coverage. Check your specific kiosk agreement β€” we can quote to the limits it specifies.

Do I need inland marine coverage for a kiosk?

Yes, if you want the kiosk structure and equipment protected β€” mall leases typically hold the vendor responsible for their own build-out, fixtures, and equipment, which is exactly what inland marine covers.
